The Watchtower Restoration Project
The Emmer Group, the developer and builder constructing Verona, restored the historic landmark WWII Watchtower during 2004.
The watchtower is a 30-foot tall wooden structure located directly in front of Verona on the beach. It was part of a Florida coastal watch effort during the Second World War. Volunteer guards would sit in the towers and inspect the ocean looking for German ships and submarines. It is thought to be one of the only towers left on the east coast of the United States.
When EDC purchased the land on which the tower sits, it realized the community concern for this historic landmark. Since then, it completed the Watchtower Renovation Project. The Watchtower Restoration Project was completed in December 2004.
